"Finding new and practical ways to smoothly introduce the use of technology into an already crowded curriculum has been my goal," said Frank Miracola, fifth grade teacher at Armada Elementary School in Armada. In an effort to connect the rural community where he taught to the rest of the world, Mr. Miracola implemented several programs at his school. Through E-mail, for example, Mr. Miracola introduced his students to a class of fifth graders in Australia. He then used the physical descriptions and the measurements of his students' Australian counterparts as the basis of a unit on the metric system. In this way, Mr. Miracola was able to introduce his students to unfamiliar material in a practical and exciting manner. Mr. Miracola also introduced a rotating "Student of the Week" progress report and a semi-weekly newsletter to keep parents informed of class events and lesson plans.
