David S. Heckman was a mathematics teacher as well as chair of the Mathematics/Computer Department at Monmouth Academy. He was influential in the development of Maine's Common Core of Learning and the current certification standards for mathematics. One of Mr. Heckman's special interests is the integration of technology into the mathematics curriculum. Involved in his spare time with the Theatre at Monmouth, as a past president now serving on the Board of Trustees, he also helps with school plays and supports drama in his school. Mr. Heckman is past-president of the Association of Teachers of Mathematics in Maine, and Council of Presidential Awardees in Mathematics. He is currently the Executive Director for the Maine Academic Decathlon.
